Hi, I'm Julie Ann Scarlata and empowering learners to unlock their potential is my life's work.

For over 25 years, I've helped students with executive function, ADHD, reading, and writing challenges discover strengths they may not even know they have.

My practice is grounded in research-based strategies, real-world compassion, and a deep commitment to meeting every learner exactly where they are—then build from there.
I bring a wide lens to my work, thanks to years spent as a teacher, instructional coach, reading specialist—and mom.

I understand how messy (and emotional) learning can be for someone who is neurodivergent, and what it takes to find clarity inside them.

I offer:
-
1:1 executive function + learning support
-
Targeted reading + writing interventions
-
Guidance on 504s, IEPs, and major transitions
-
Collaboration with families, schools, and specialists
-
Creative approaches that honor individuality (ask me about my art studio years. )
Most of all, I help students build skills they can trust, and experience confidence they can feel.
A little more about me and why I do this work
Before I was a specialist, I was a camp counselor teaching kids how to kayak, sing badly, and rescue s’mores from the fire. Looking back, that was when I learned how much I love watching young people realize what they’re truly capable of.

Since then, my journey has stretched across classrooms, reading intervention programs, instructional coaching, art studios, and even the wild world of school improvement planning.

But honestly?
My true calling has always been working one-on-one with students and their families to help them feel seen, supported, and equipped—both inside and outside the classroom.
As a musician and artist, I believe that creativity belongs in education—and that every child needs more curiosity, a place of belonging, and recognition for the gifts they have. A child's gifts can get buried in a system that is built for neurotypical learners, especially when their wiring is misunderstood. I'm here to help unearth that brilliance.

When you work with me, you get:
-
25+ years of hands-on experience as a teacher, reading specialist, coach, and parent
-
A specialist who understands 504s, IEPs, and what good intentions still leave out
-
A multi-sensory toolkit for reading, executive function, and social-emotional growth
-
A collaborator with families and schools, because progress is a team sport
-
And a real human who thinks your elevating your child’s strengths is just as important as working through their struggles
I hold an M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction, undergrad degrees in Communications and Music, and a Professional Teacher License in Colorado. I completed my certification in Educational Therapy through the University of California at Riverside.
And most importantly? I show up with curiosity, patience, and a fierce belief in every student’s right to be understood—not just managed.
If you want an ally who can help you navigate learning differences, school transitions, and those “what now?” moments with equal parts strategy and care—reach out. Let’s build something steady and empowering for your learner.
